About The Opportunity:

Windmill Strategy is seeking an experienced copywriter to join our team on an as-needed basis. The ideal candidate will be proficient in drafting and editing high-quality written copy in the form of website content, ongoing blog and article content, landing pages and campaigns, ad copy, marketing emails, case studies, social media posts, and more where purpose, length and tone will vary considerably.

As a copywriter at Windmill Strategy, you’ll play a pivotal role in creating a wide variety of clear, accurate and compelling copy that engages and inspires our clients’ target audiences, who range from technical engineers and scientists to C-suite decision-makers, to maintenance techs in the field. You will work closely with our distributed team of A-players to craft content that aligns with our clients’ brand voice, resonates with and provides clear information to their target markets, and drives tangible results.

This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of projects across various B2B technical industries, allowing you to constantly expand your skill set and make a meaningful impact on our clients’ success.

This is a remote/WFH position, on a fully virtual team. This is a contract project-based position where hours may ebb and flow week-to-week (average 5-20 hours/week), with the potential to grow into a full time hire.

About You:

You are a highly creative, technically adept, curious, and versatile copywriter with a passion for storytelling and an innate ability to distill complex ideas into clear, concise, and persuasive messaging. You have a way of pulling information out of engineers and technical subject matter experts in an interview. You have a keen eye for detail and a strong understanding of B2B marketing strategies, enabling you to craft copy that not only engages and informs readers but also drives desired actions.

You thrive in a collaborative environment and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional results. Your dedication to staying up-to-date with industry trends and best practices ensures that your work is always innovative, effective, and aligned with our clients’ objectives.

You have experience in, and understand writing in a B2B technical environment. You generally avoid being cute with copywriting, skipping the marketing fluff and focusing instead on first being clear and straightforward—and then working in cleverness where it fits. Our clients (and their audiences) are largely technical, often engineers or scientists; they want facts, examples, specifications, details, and clear information. They are allergic to anything that sounds like marketing fluff or sales copy. Their CEOs or purchasing departments want high-level overviews that are also easy to understand.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with our project management team, designers, developers, and clients to develop and execute compelling copy across various digital platforms, including website content, ongoing articles and blog posts, case studies, marketing emails, social media posts, ad copy, landing pages and campaigns and more for both Windmill and our clients.
  • Conduct thorough research to understand clients’ industries, target audiences, and competitive landscapes, ensuring that your copy is clear, correct, and resonates and differentiates effectively.
  • Write and edit copy that captures clients’ brand voice and accurately conveys key messages, features, benefits, and specifications, while adhering to established style guides and maintaining consistent tone and style.
  • Interview subject matter experts and/or work from client-provided specifications, asking questions in order to gain a full understanding of the subject matter and convey it to others in a clear and compelling manner. 
  • Develop a deep understanding of clients’ products and services, translating technical information into clear and persuasive language that engages and educates their target markets.
  • Collaborate with the design team to ensure seamless integration of copy and visual elements, creating cohesive and impactful marketing materials.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to continuously improve copywriting skills and contribute fresh ideas to our marketing strategies.

Specific Skills:

  • Proven experience in copywriting for B2B technical clients in a variety of media types, including website content, blog posts and articles, social media, case studies, email, and more.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a keen attention to detail and a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and style.
  • Proven experience in copywriting for digital marketing, with a portfolio showcasing a range of creative and persuasive writing samples.
  • Ability to adapt writing style to match different industries, brand voices, and target audiences.
  • Strong research skills, with the ability to gather and synthesize information from diverse sources to create both compelling and accurate content.
  • Strong interviewing and note-taking skills, particularly with technical subject matter experts. 
  • An aptitude, general understanding, and curiosity for all things technical and mechanical. 
  • Proficiency in SEO best practices and keyword research to optimize copy for search engines and drive organic traffic.
  • Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, tools, and analytics to track and measure the effectiveness of copy and make data-driven optimizations.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects with competing deadlines, while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational time-management skills, including the ability to contribute to several concurrent projects and deadlines, taking responsibility for your portion of the project as it contributes to the whole.
  • Personally accountable, responsible, and dedicated to creating value and success for Windmill and our clients.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Agency experience is a plus.
